Fathers' day secret shop

Father’s Day Secret Shop Report
A big thank you to everyone that came along to our first Father’s Day Secret Shop on the 9th June.
We hope that all the dads and grandads enjoyed opening their gifts that were so carefully chosen by the children last Sunday (and that we eased the pain of sourcing a present for some of you)!
This was a new event for us, which we decided to run after it was so widely supported during the recent Friends survey. Whilst the children were in the shop choosing a gift and decorating their gift bags, grown-ups enjoyed a scone or brownie with a drink.
We had a good turnout and sold around 65 gifts. Along with the monies made from refreshments and ice lollies, we made £91.53 profit.
This isn’t a huge sum, particularly for the amount of effort and time involved, so we have agreed to revisit this next year and decide whether it is worthwhile running it again. If you have a strong feeling, either way, please let us know.
On the plus side, we do have a number of gifts left over that will be sold in the Christmas Secret Shop.
Thanks again for supporting us, and a special thanks goes out to those that helped set up and run the event, we really couldn’t do it without you.

Bag2School

It’s time to clear out your wardrobe!
Bag2School – Thursday 13th July
Hopefully you’ll have seen our information about Bag2School in the recent newsletter, and in previous communications.
This is another fundraising idea that we put forward in the Friends survey to gauge interest. As over 95% of you said that you would support it, we have now gone forward and set up a collection date.
About Bag2School
For those of you who don’t know about Bag2School, this is a fundraising scheme that gives 40p a kilo for any unwanted clothing or household linens.
Established in 1999, Bag2School works with schools, community groups, local councils and charities to help them raise funds from clothing donations and unwanted textiles. These donations are then sold to importers and wholesalers in Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and Asia.
Collection date
We’ll be sending home bags for you to fill around Friday 30th June, to be returned to school between drop off on the morning of Wednesday 12th July and 9am on Thursday 13th July.
Please note that there’s a short window for returning bags as there’s nowhere to store them in school.
This is a great way for you to clear out all those clothes the children have outgrown and unwanted textiles, whilst benefiting Ysgol y Llan at the same time, so please start sorting!
Further information is available at www.bag2school.com

What events would you like to see in the future? We would like to bring some fresh ideas to the current fundraising that takes place and we would welcome your input.

The Friends of the school have set up a survey to gauge your interest in future fundraising ideas. Please spend a moment of your time to complete the short survey ASAP and let the committee know what you think about their ideas for future fundraising events.

Thank you very much in advance.

Friends of Ysgol y Llan (PTA) Update

2/13/2017

Dear Parents

Half term is almost here and the calendar is starting to fill up, so we wanted to give you a few dates for your diary and give you an update on the year so far.
The Outdoor Classroom is looking good and is nearly ready for action thanks to the funds raised by the previous committee. We’re sure the children will love using this new space.

Decorate a Heart Competition
We’ve already had some wonderfully creative and colourful hearts sent in, please keep them coming! Please return all hearts into school by Wednesday 15th, as we will be picking the winning hearts and giving out prizes (one for each class) on Friday 17th.

School Disco – Friday 17th February, 3.15-4.30pm
Love is in the air for our Valentine’s Disco this Friday! We’ll be decorating the hall with all of the hearts from our competition, and we hope to see lots of the children there. If you haven’t got your reply slips in yet please do so by Thursday if possible, and remember to include any song requests.

Next Friends Meeting – Thursday 2nd March, School Hall, 2.15-3pm
Please come along to this meeting if you can. We have some new fundraising ideas that we would like to share with you and get your views on. If you have any thoughts or ideas, we would love to hear them. We’ll also be asking the teachers to share any requests they have for resources or thoughts on how they would like the money to be spent for the benefit of our children.

Mother’s Day Secret Shop – Friday 24th March, School Hall, 3.15-4.30pm
We will once again be holding a Mother’s Day Secret Shop after school in the Hall. This is the chance for children to come along and choose a present for mum, while you relax with a cuppa and a slice of cake. More details will follow in the next few weeks.
Finally, a big thank you for supporting our events. The Christmas Fair was a big success and we’re sure the disco will be a lot of fun at the end of the week.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our meeting after half-term.

Dear Parents

You recently received a piece of card (last Friday) so that your child can create a heart for our Valentine Disco decorations.

Please note that this will be a competition - the Friends of the school will be giving out prizes for the best decorated hearts returned. Therefore, please send an entry in and ensure that your child's name is on the back of the heart so that the winners can be identified.

Thank you & good luck!

Thank You
On behalf of the committee of the Friends of Ysgol Y Llan, we just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped with the preparations for the fair, and to all who helped on the day.

Thank you also to the parents and grandparents of the children,  especially with our recent requests for contributions for the fair.

We really couldn't have done it without you all!! We think it was a big success, the children seemed to enjoy themselves and although we don't know how much yet, we are sure we have raised lots of money for the school.

Once again thank you all so much for coming and supporting the school :-)

A message from the NEW Friends Committee!

10/18/2016

Dear Parents and friends,

We would like to introduce ourselves as the new committee of the Friends of Ysgol y Llan, and to ask for your help and support as we look to raise vital funds for our children throughout the school year.

Firstly, we give huge thanks to the previous committee for all their hard work and dedication over the last few years. They have raised a significant amount of money through their fundraising efforts, which has paid for the new outdoor classroom (more news on this soon), iPads for each class and Purple Mash, to mention just a few. They have left us with very big shoes to fill, and we thank them for their advice and support.

As well as the larger investments, the fundraising raised by the Friends of Ysgol y Llan also supplements school funds in many small ways that you may not be aware of, like ice creams at the Panto, contributions to the children’s Christmas party and help towards travel costs.

We feel it’s vitally important that our children continue to benefit from these funds, which is why we have stepped forward to form a new committee. We are still finding our feet, so we ask for your patience and support as we learn the ropes over the next few months.

Chairperson:                      Carol Owen
Vice Chair:                         Vanessa Brimelow
Secretary (joint):                Laura Temple & Suzi Peake
Treasurer:                          Kate Meredith
Year 6 reps:                       Michelle Griffiths & Carmel Clapson
Year 5 rep:                         Kate Thomas
Year 4 rep:                         Rachel Goddard Jones & Kinga Malek
Year 3 rep:                         Maria Hughes
Year 2 reps:                       Sharon Simon & Jenny Haskayne
Year 1 reps:                       Dawn Astbury & Christine Morgan
Reception reps:                  Sian Jones & Steph Bamford
Nursery rep:                       Kerry O’Connor

We have our first disco on Thursday that we hope will be well attended.  Thanks to all those who have already stepped in to help, we have had limited time to organise this and without you we would be stuck (and there would be no music or chips)!

We will hold regular meetings to keep everyone informed of our plans, and any ideas for future events would be greatly appreciated. There seems to be a genuine willingness to get involved which we are very grateful for. We’re aware that there are many demands on your time, so an hour or two to run a stall or sell some raffle tickets is all we ask for.

Christmas will be our next big fundraising event, and we will be holding a meeting to plan this after half-term. Please come along if you can, we really do need your help and ideas.

Many thanks for your support.

Summer Fair & Fundraising

6/13/2016

WOW!   AMAZING!   THANK YOU!

What a superb Sports  Day and  Carnival Summer Fair we had last week.  We raised over a £1000 thanks to all of your support and generosity, money that is going straight into the "Outdoor Classroom Fund".

Special thanks to Pennant Riding for bringing their lovely ponies - we know these are a hit.  To Ravenscroft and Thackeray for the donation of delicious burgers and sausages.  To the talented Gareth Cust for creating the fabulous "Pallet Stalls" ( we now know your skills!), to volunteer helpers cooking, setting up, clearing away, "manning" stalls and "being there" and to the wonderful staff at Ysgol y Llan who arranged such lovely attractions.

It was really lovely to see some "new" faces at the planning meeting for the Fair and to share ideas.  The success of Friends relies entirely on AS MANY people as possible joining in.  We all have a common aim - making money to enhance the wonderful facilities and experiences which our children enjoy. Please come along to the next meeting - YOUR SCHOOL NEEDS YOU.

We will soon be sending home some more raffle tickets ( to be drawn at the end of the Leavers Concert ).  We will be offering a prize to the family which sells the MOST raffle tickets and, as you all know, we normally manage to source some FANTASTIC prizes, so dig deep please.  With over 120 children in school, if every child sells just £5 of tickets that would instantly raise £600.

Remember, the sooner we have our Outdoor Classroom the sooner we can all take a break from fundraising!

Thanks once again for your support.

Maria
