At Ysgol y Llan, we provide meals for our pupils through NEWydd Catering, the local authority catering service that supplies meals to many schools across North Wales.
Healthy and Nutritious Food
NEWydd prepares fresh, balanced meals each day that meet Welsh Government nutritional standards for schools. Their menus are carefully planned to ensure children receive the energy and nutrients they need to stay focused, active and ready to learn throughout the school day.
School meals are designed to be:
- Freshly prepared each day
- Healthy and nutritionally balanced
- Enjoyable and suitable for children
- Varied to encourage pupils to try different foods
Meals typically include a hot main meal, a vegetarian option, vegetables or salad, and a dessert or fresh fruit.
Weekly Menu
NEWydd provides a three-week rotating menu, offering a wide variety of meals so that pupils can enjoy something different each week.
Parents can view the latest school menus and further information on the NEWydd website.
Menus are also shared with parents through school communications when updates are made.
Free School Meals
All primary school pupils in Wales are now entitled to Universal Primary Free School Meals. This means that every child attending Ysgol y Llan can enjoy a healthy hot meal at lunchtime free of charge.
Dietary Requirements
If your child has any allergies, food intolerances or special dietary requirements, please inform the school office. The catering team will work closely with families to ensure suitable meals are provided safely.
Packed Lunches
Children are welcome to bring a healthy packed lunch from home if they prefer. We encourage families to include balanced options such as sandwiches, fruit, yoghurt and a healthy drink.
