Good afternoon all!

I hope you have all enjoyed the sunny half term break! Let's hope that the weather continues this week as we have a few things on!

Monday - for those children who have been invited to the Holywell football festival, please remember boots (and trainers), shin pads, packed lunch, sun cream and plenty to drink!

Wednesday - no clubs! It is our sports day in the afternoon followed by our summer fair at 3.15pm. Please remember to apply sun cream and bring a hat on the day. If anyone has a spare gazebo that we can use to protect the children during sports day, please contact the school office.

See you tomorrow.

Good afternoon all.

Wherever you are, I really hope you are enjoying the half term break. It will soon be our final half term before summer.

I was just writing my Headteacher's report to the Governors and it struck me how incredibly proud I am of our pupils. I thought that I would take a moment to share this with you.

Many of our pupils have worked really hard during the Welsh National Tests - which are not the most pleasurable, easy or exciting tests. They tried their best and that is all I can ask of them. No matter what the final results say, we get to see these children day in and day out, and we witness the delightful, interesting and unique characters that they are.

In everything that they do, the pupils of Ysgol y Llan give it their best shot and are always good representatives of the school. This has been evident in some of our recent successes:
  • Dance Fest 2016 - Reception pupils danced their hearts out during an evening performance and we had so many complements about their performance, work ethic, confidence, enthusiasm and behaviour. The show was not judged yet had it been, I'm sure they would have left holding a trophy.
  • Festival of Youth Sport - our junior bowlers came 2nd place in their competition whilst our Year 1 & 2 pupils received 1st place in the cheerleading competition. Again, there were many positive comments about the mannerism and good sportsmanship of our young pupils. Class 2 will go on to represent us at a National level in Manchester and I'm sure they'll do us proud - even if they do not come away with another trophy, I know that they will try their best and that the public will witness some polite and hardworking individuals. Saying that, another trophy would be nice, so get training!!!
  • National Eisteddfod - during the week, I went to see our 'Parti Seren' choir group perform in the Urdd National Eisteddfod. They have been awesome representatives throughout the entire competition and they deserved to compete on stage. They worked so hard to get to the Nationals and fought off competition from many other schools. This week, they were up  against some extremely strong competitors but we were confident that they could still progress. Unfortunately, luck was not with them on the day and they did not make it to the main stage. However, they were not disheartened by the experience. They held their heads up high and congratulated one another for getting so far. This is what makes them special!

Our pupils take part in lots of activities outside of school. When (and we do) we receive comments back about their behaviour and attitude, it really demonstrates what goes on inside our school. Thank you to all staff and pupils at Ysgol y Llan for your hard work.

Now I must get back to work! Enjoy the rest of half term and see you soon.
