Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

At Ysgol y Llan, we are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their full potential. We recognise that children learn in different ways and at different rates, and we work closely with pupils, families and external agencies to ensure that appropriate support is in place when needed.

Our Approach to Supporting ALN

Our aim is to create an inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel valued, supported and able to succeed. Support for Additional Learning Needs (ALN) may include:

  • Carefully planned classroom support and differentiation
  • Targeted small group or individual interventions
  • Support programmes to develop literacy, numeracy or wellbeing
  • Working closely with parents and carers to share progress and next steps
  • Liaison with external professionals where appropriate (e.g. Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapy, Health services)

Support is always tailored to the individual needs of the child and is regularly reviewed to ensure it remains effective.

The ALN Team at Ysgol y Llan

Responsibility for coordinating Additional Learning Needs provision within the school sits with our Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo).

Miss Roberts – ALNCo
Miss Roberts oversees the provision for pupils with additional learning needs across the school. She works closely with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the appropriate support and guidance.

Miss Davies – Intervention Support
Miss Davies works closely with pupils across the school delivering targeted intervention programmes and additional support where needed. These interventions help pupils develop key skills and build confidence in their learning.

Working with Parents and Carers

We believe that strong communication with parents and carers is essential. If a child requires additional support, we will work closely with families to discuss needs, strategies and progress.

Parents who have any concerns about their child’s learning or development are encouraged to speak with their child’s class teacher in the first instance, who can then liaise with the ALNCo if required.
