More information
At Ysgol y Llan we aim to provide a structured, engaging and supportive school day where pupils feel happy, safe and ready to learn. Each day is carefully planned to provide a balance of high-quality learning, physical activity, social time and opportunities for creativity.
Morning Arrival
The school gates open at 7:45am, when pupils arrive and are welcomed by staff at our Breakfast Club. Registration takes place at 8:55am and pupils enter their classrooms, allowing teachers to greet pupils and prepare them for the day ahead.
Lessons begin promptly after registration. During the morning session, pupils take part in a range of learning activities which typically include literacy, numeracy and Welsh language development, alongside opportunities to develop their digital skills and creativity.
Breaktime
Morning break provides pupils with time to play, socialise and recharge. Children enjoy the playground and school grounds, where they have access to a variety of PE and play equipment. Pupils are encouraged to be active and develop positive friendships during this time.
Lunchtime
Lunchtime takes place in the school hall, where pupils can enjoy a healthy meal together. Children may bring a packed lunch or have a school meal provided by NEWYDD. All food is cooked off site and is transported to school. After eating, pupils spend time outdoors on the playground or field, supervised by staff and midday supervisors.
Afternoon Learning
During the afternoon session, we welcomed nursery at 12:45pm. Pupils continue their learning through a variety of curriculum areas. Afternoons also provide opportunities for creative activities, topic-based learning and collaborative projects, helping pupils to develop confidence, independence and teamwork.
End of the School Day
The school day finishes at 3:15pm, when pupils are collected by parents or carers. At the end of the day, each class will leave through their own doors. Parents and carers should greet their children at these areas.
For families who require additional childcare, pupils can attend the After School Club, run by Whitford Playgroup and Wraparound Childcare, which operates until 5:15pm.
At Ysgol y Llan we strive to ensure that each school day is stimulating, supportive and enjoyable, helping pupils to develop academically, socially and personally within our caring school community.
Nursery and Early Entitlement Provision
At Ysgol y Llan we are proud to offer a welcoming and nurturing Nursery provision where our youngest learners begin their school journey in a safe, supportive and engaging environment.
Our Nursery class currently attends school from 12:45pm to 3:15pm, Monday to Friday. During this time, children take part in a range of carefully planned activities designed to support their development through play, exploration and interaction with others.
In addition, Ysgol y Llan offers Early Entitlement provision for eligible pupils. Children accessing this provision attend school from 8:55am to 10:55am, Monday to Friday. This session supports early learning and helps children develop key skills as they prepare for their full nursery experience.
Our Nursery and Early Entitlement sessions focus on developing children’s communication, confidence, independence and social skills, while providing a positive introduction to school life. Children benefit from engaging indoor and outdoor learning opportunities that support the Curriculum for Wales and early years development.
We work closely with families to ensure that every child feels happy, secure and ready to learn as they begin their educational journey at Ysgol y Llan.
